Davis describes a failed robbery attempt, her involvement with the National Council of Jewish Women, her analysis of the relationship between Reform and Orthodox Jews, her interactions with non-Jewish neighbors, her informal work as a midwife and nurse including a circumcision performed in her home, her experiences caring for her sickly infant during a scarlet fever epidemic, her financial struggles during the Panic of 1893, the loss of a child, her health troubles, and her communal work including training Russian Jewish immigrants and assisting organizations such as Beth Hamedrash Hagodol and the Gusky Orphanage, and her experiences as a landlady. She also describes the origins of the Hebrew Ladies Hospital Aid Society.
