Samuel and Mary Carey Simon immigrated to Western Pennsylvania from Ukraine about 1882. They had six children, Sophia, Jennie, Abraham, David, Israel and Celia. The four older children were born in Ukraine while the younger two were born in Pittsburgh. The family later moved to McKeesport, Pa., and lived on May Street.
Israel “I. A.” Simon (1883-1949) was a private secretary to Leon Falk before founding the Duquesne Smelting Corporation in 1939.
I. A. Simon married Sadie Markowitz in 1919. Their son, Richard Simon, sat on the boards of Montefiore Hospital and the Jewish Healthcare Foundation. He was also the president of Rodef Shalom Congregation.
I.A. Simon’s brother, David Simon, married Sadie Markowitz’s sister, Eva Markowitz.
