Mishcan Israel Congregation (Dwelling of Israel) was chartered in April 1889. From the available record, it is unclear what prompted its creation. A similarly named congregation referenced in newspaper articles around the time—Refuge of Strangers—may have been the same entity. Charter members include Joshua Goldberg, Jacob Gudinsky, Joseph Kabolinsky, J. Levy, Maer Rosenbloome, Samuel Schein, David Scolin, and Solomon Sukatsky. These members appear to have come from various parts of Eastern Europe, rather than concentrated in one region like many other congregations of that era. Mishcan Israel appears to have dissolved quickly without much documentation.
