Miriam C. (Geismar) Tabor

Miriam C. (Geismar) Tabor (1893-1989) was born in Buffalo, NY. She studied art in New York City before her family moved to Pittsburgh around 1921. While living in Pittsburgh, she became active with the Business and Professional Women’s Club of the National Council of Jewish Women-Pittsburgh Section and the Women’s Advertising Club. She briefly led the Art Club at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement House’s Neighborhood Art School, which later became the Junior Artists Association. Geismar returned to her hometown sometime after marrying Buffalo-native Maurice S. Tabor in 1926 and remained until her death. She subsequently became a notable figure in the Buffalo art community, showing at the Western New York Art Show of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Jewish Community Center, and the Cole Gallery.
