Alvin Meyers was one of the first businessmen in the local automotive industry. He owned an auto parts store on Wood Street as early as 1915. In 1926, he started the Almotor Supply Company, which used the slogan “The Motorist’s Department Store.”
As a young man, Meyers was a member of the Coffey Club with David “Lefty” Abrams. Like many Coffey Club members, he served a long tour of duty during World War I. Upon his return, Alvin Meyers married Bella Golanty (c.1890-1955). They had two sons, Leonard George Meyers and Karl Fred Meyers. The family attended B’nai Israel Congregation and belonged to many community organizations.
