The Good Earth Natural Food Store was an organic food store with a kosher restaurant and kosher bakery at 2701 Murray Ave. in the Morrowfield Building in Squirrel Hill.
Dennis Portnoy started the grocery store around 1970 at 2635 Murray Ave. and later at 2218 Murray Ave. He relocated to 2701 Murray Ave. in the Morrowfield Building in 1973 and expanded the operation to include a kosher restaurant and bakery. Rabbi Kehos Weiss supervised the kosher status of the restaurant and bakery. The Good Earth dropped the kosher status of its restaurant in November 1973 but maintained the kosher bakery for an additional period.
The Good Earth relocated to 811 West St. in Homestead, Pa. around 1977 and relocated in the late 1980s to Mt. Lebanon, becoming one of the first tenants of the Galleria.
