Julia Miller (1843-1938) immigrated to Western Pennsylvania from Libneau, Germany, about 1856. In 1870, she married Louis Fell (1818-1887), who owned a meat market in Uniontown, Pa. They had four children, Sam, Flora, Hattie and Lee.
Julia Fell made the local news in 1932 when she got a “travel urge” and rode a train alone from Greensburg, Pa., to New York City to visit her daughter. “She didn’t sleep a wink because she didn’t want to miss a thing,” a newspaper reported. According to her obituary, she was the oldest resident of Uniontown at the time of her death. Louis Fell is believed to be the first adult buried in the Hebrew Cemetery Association cemetery in Hopwood, Pa.
Sam Fell married Marvel de Voll, a noted violinist from Kansas City. Flora Fell married Joseph J. Michael of Olean, New York, in 1902. Hattie Fell married Moe Nussbaum.
After working for the Max Baum & Son clothier, Louis Fell opened a clothing store on West Main Street in downtown Uniontown in 1917. He acquired the Baum store in 1926.
