Community Day School is a non-denominational K-8 Jewish day school in Pittsburgh.
It was founded as early as June 1972 by several Jewish families looking for alternatives to the public schools system as well as the existing Orthodox sponsored day schools in the city. Community Day School began offering half-day kindergarten and full-day first grade classes in September 1973 out of the Hebrew Institute and added grades each year.
Community Day School merged with the South Hills Solomon Schechter School in 1988 and then joined the Hebrew Institute and the School of Advanced Jewish Studies in 1991 as part of the new Jewish Education Institute. After starting at the Hebrew Institute, Community Day School relocated to former St. Philomena church and school at Forward Avenue and Beechwood Boulevard in 1996. It became an independent school in 2004.
