Bennie (1889-1953) and Nettie Epstein Abelson (1887-1967) immigrated to Pittsburgh from Russia and Lithuania, respectively. They raised seven children in the Hill District.
Their son Arthur Abelson (1900-1997) was a baker in his youth and became a postal clerk in the 1930s. Except for his service in the army during World War II, he sorted mail at the downtown branch of the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in the late 1960s.
On January 1, 1930, he married Minnie Davidson (1918-1995). They lived on Devilliers Street in the Hill District before moving to Sheridan Street in East Liberty, and then to Stanton Heights where they built a house in the 1950s. They had two daughters, Edith and Ann Fay.
