West Sunbury is a borough in Butler County. It was settled in 1828 and incorporated in 1866. The population of the borough has never surpassed 300 people.

Abraham R. Rutstein and his wife Ethel (Schmidt) Rutstein opened a general store in West Sunbury in early 1929 after living in Russelton, Pa. and in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh. They had two children, Louis Rutstein and Freda Rutstein. The Rutstein general store and all its contents were completed destroyed by fire in February 1931, and the family ultimately relocated to the East End of Pittsburgh.
