Cranberry is a township in Butler County. It was settled in 1794 and incorporated in 1804. The area developed quickly with the construction of the Route 19 exit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in 1951, the construction of local industrial parks in the 1960s, the opening of Interstate 79 in 1966, and the opening of Interstate 279 in 1989.

With suburbanization of the early 1990s, Cranberry Township attracted a small Jewish population. Jewish community groups began in the early 2010s, including Cranberry Community Jews (2011) and activities sponsored by Chabad-Lubavitch of Western Pennsylvania. Rabbi Yossi and Rebbetzin Leah Feller opened Chabad of Cranberry in 2020.
