Rauh Jewish Archives at the Heinz History Center
AMIT Women is a national women’s Zionist organization providing religious Jewish education for Israeli children. It was founded in 1925 as Mizrachi Women of America.
The Pittsburgh branch of Mizrachi Women of America predated the national organization. Rebbetzin Pearl Ashinsky started the Sisters of Zion in 1903. It became affiliated with the newly formed Mizrachi Zionist Organization in 1913 and later became known as the Pearl Ashinsky Chapter of Mizrachi Women of America. The Pittsburgh branch later grew to include Chapter Beth by 1940 and Aliza Chapter in 1982. The national and local organizations later adopted the name AMIT Women.
