Smaller congregations such as Beth Israel Congregation in Latrobe regularly hired student rabbis for the High Holidays. In 1959, the congregation hired Rabbi Michael Hecht, who went on to have a long career with B’nai Jeshurun Congregation in Cleveland, Ohio.
