Rabbi J. B. Menkes wrote this poem in honor of the dedication of the first Temple Israel synagogue. In it, he said he would attempt to reconcile old and new ways and referenced The Jazz Singer, a popular film of the time about a rabbi’s son who becomes an entertainer.
