Introductory section of Annie Jacobs Davis’ memoir, typescript with handwritten annotations, six pages. Davis describes her birth and childhood in Russia, her father’s conscription and service in the Russian Army in the Caucasus, her mother’s restaurant catering to soldiers, the birth of her siblings, their relocation to the city of Vladimir and relations with their Christian neighbors, various childhood adventures, and her positive feelings toward America.
