Davis describes her childhood and religious education in Russia, her passage to America to Germany and England, the death of her father, accommodations upon arriving in New York City, relocation to the Hill District of Pittsburgh, formal and informal education, childhood religious observance, early work life, early charitable activities, courtship with Barnett Davis, wedding in Beth Hamedrash Hagodol, marriage and homemaking, family dynamics, forays into social work, domestic responsibilities, and relationships with hired domestic help.
