Beth Israel Congregation member Robert Mendler was one of only 39 Jews from his town in Poland to survive the Holocaust. After the war, he joined an uncle in Latrobe who owned Mendler’s Shoe Store. Later in life, Mendler began speaking about his experiences during the war, using a version of this speech.
