In late 1930, Congregation Beth Jacob in Duquesne adopted these by-laws to govern congregational affairs. The by-laws favored Yiddish over English for all business, required a character interview for all potential members and included provisions for five employees: rabbi, cantor, supervisor, shochet (butcher) and sexton.
