The B’nai B’rith Uniontown Lodge No. 471 (later known as the Fayette Lodge No. 471) began presenting the annual Sports Night scholarship in 1957 to recognize sportsmanship and athletic ability in the city. The award was intended as a goodwill gesture to the city-at-large and almost always went to a non-Jew.
